When
If you have found your way to this page, you have likely had a run-in with my son Leo, whether virtually or in person. So, you also already know that his smile is infectious, and while he has been through so much, he continues to spread his smile every day. He does not let his cancer diagnosis stop him from enjoying every moment.
Every day, there are almost 800 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. This adds up to an estimated 300,000 new cases of cancer that affect children under the age of 20 each year worldwide. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded, with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research dedicated to childhood cancers each year.
Hepatoblastoma is a very rare form of liver cancer. Most cases occur in children under three years old. The exact cause is not known, but it is a common cancer in the micro-preemie population. Throughout the last decade, as more and more preemie babies are surviving to become 1,2 and 3 years old, this cancer has become more frequently occurring.
Today, the money you donate has the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of kids with cancer (and their families). You can support giving kids like Leo a chance to have more moments to create memories, laugh, and enjoy being a kid. Your donation will fund research into safer, more effective treatments and cures for hepatoblastoma.
Thank you,
Summer Edwards
